We
are currently working in the areas of anemia, I.V. iron and infection,
dialysis modality, hemodialyzer reuse, adequacy of dialysis therapy,
and economic analyses related to capitation contracting.
Nephrology Analytical Services was established in 1995 under the
direction of Dr.
Allan J. Collins, and is an affiliate of the Minneapolis
Medical Research Foundation (MMRF). Using national data obtained
from the Health Care
Financing Administration (CMS) and the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we have constructed an
extensive End Stage Renal Disease database which dates back to 1991
and contains demographic, medical, entitlement, and provider
information.

Our research is currently being published in major
nephrology journals, and members of our group have given numerous
presentations at national and international dialysis and nephrology
meetings (i.e. ASN,
NKF, EDTA,
and ISN),
presented at a joint collaboration of the National
Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and
provided data to the National
Kidney Foundation DOQI initiative regarding patient comorbidity,
therapy quantitation, anemia correction with erythropoietin, and iron
utilization and its associated outcomes.
